When is the best time to go to Rio?
It depends on the experience you want. Rio is warm for much of the year, but summer brings heat and frequent rain. If the beach is your priority, leave room for changes in the weather; if you'd rather walk and visit museums, a less hot time of year may be more comfortable. No month guarantees sunshine.
Summer: beach, rain and big events
Most of the celebrations and the summer rains fall between December and March. Réveillon and Carnival call for especially careful checks on accommodation, transportation and cancellation policies. Check the forecast close to the date, not a prediction made months in advance.
Fall, winter and spring
For city walks and trails, compare the fall and winter months if you want to avoid the worst of the heat. In spring you can combine more outdoor plans, always with a rainy-day alternative. Use historical temperatures and rainfall as a guide, never as a forecast for a specific day.
